Notes:
This can be pretty laid back for most of it, and can vary quite a bit in tempo throughout the song, but it needs to be precise on the hits on the bridge and it needs to be HUGE on the last chorus. I can’t be clear enough, metal vibe isn’t too much. Horns should stretch time on the soli on the second verse, but must be together. There needs to be a pretty crazy dynamic change between the chill bits and the crazy bits. Bring it from a dynamic of 2/10 on the verse to 11/10 on the choruses.

Shy (Melt)
Original - 169 bpm, Ebm
Ours - 169 bpm, Ebm
Live from Levitate Music and Arts Festival
Live from the Music Hall of Williamsburg
Chords/Lyrics (Studio version)
Notes:
I want this to make people’s heads bob the entire song. Keep it in the pocket and simple, but go hard with it. Make sure the releases on your notes are together, especially horns. A little bit of Dilla time is great for this.

If You Want Me to Stay (Sly and the Family Stone)

Notes:
Absolutely legendary song by a legendary artist. Keep the groove going constantly, and don’t speed up. Horns, be precise and deliberate in your articulation and dynamics. Keys, use a lot of blues fills and grace notes. Guitar, keep it light and don’t overplay, mostly muted percussion pretty much, but add some blues licks. I love the Prince version for dynamics and groove ideas, and the Tokyo version for articulation.

Chords/Lyrics (Studio version)

Notes:
LOTS of energy. Disco drums, keep it light and airy on the horns. Keys, keep it upbeat and moving a lot. Not much to say here, just keep it grooving and have a lot of fun with it. Make people dance.

Take My Money (Tom McGuire and the Brassholes)
Original - 85 bpm, Bm
Ours - 85 bpm, Bm
Live from Future Yard Birkenstock
Notes:
I like the live version here, but it doesn’t go hard enough in my opinion. Make this huge on the choruses. I mean massive, blow as hard as you can, play fully open hat, lots of distortion, etc. Play your hearts out, try to peak the system. On that last chorus, guitar should whale, drums should hurt everyone's ears, etc. On the last verse (talking and hustling with Freddie), bring it down and keep it super even and low dynamically. Legato with good articulation on the bass, and keep an even dynamic. I’ll cue the last chorus.
